The Muddus is a highly practical, highly versatile blend
of old school simplicity and new school modular design.
Tent Profile
Inspired by the very first Hilleberg tent, the Keb, the Muddus is as
simple as it is flexible. Its traditional two-pole ridge design
is roomy, stable, very easy to pitch, and
trekking poles can be substituted for its regular
ones, making it ideally suited for mobile
adventures, where you pitch and strike your tent every day. Since
its modular components can be configured as tent, tarp, wind
break, solo shelter, or as part of a multi-tent complex, it is
ideal for below tree line use in all seasons, and
especially so for group trips. With some care and
planning, it can also be used very effectively
for above tree line use, even in harsh conditions. For these situations,
its exceptionally strong Kerlon SP outer tent fabric gives the
Muddus a distinct advantage over many other straight-pole,
pyramidal shaped tents.
Who uses the Muddus?
The Muddus’ modularity has gained quite a following with a
diverse assortment of backcountry travelers. Scout troops benefit
from its cost effective group handling capability, families
appreciate its ability to be configured into
multiple bedroom housing, and hunters and
military units relish in its profound simplicity and
versatility. It is also highly popular with users who do multiple
activities, year round, since it can be used as, say, a
lightweight tarp on a backpacking trip, as a full tent
on a paddle touring excursion or a long ski
tour, and somewhere between the two on a
weekend bicycle jaunt.

Why Choose The Muddus?
It is wonderfully simple to use, and it offers excellent value,
since it can be used in
so many ways and in so many different situations. As such, it is
ideal for almost
any activity, year ‘round.
●
The Muddus, with its classic two straight pole ridge design and
linked inner and
outer tents, is very easy to set up.
●
Kerlon SP outer tent fabric is remarkably robust.
●
Trekking poles – or even branches – can be used in place of the
standard support
poles.
●
Pitching requires only a few pegs, yet there are plenty of extra
points for increasing stability.
●
Modular construction lets you use the Muddus as a lightweight
tarp with walls (by
taking only the outer tent), a full tent, a basic solo shelter
(by zipping two vestibules
together), or as part of an interconnected, multi-space habitat.
●
The Muddus Base Version has plenty of room for two, thanks to
its large floor space, and generous vestibules.
●
Its two entrances and two vestibules afford tremendous
convenience and comfort.
●
One entrance of the tent can always be situated out of the wind.
●
The Muddus’ ventilation works in all conditions, since both the
inner tent fabric is highly breathable yet water repellent, and
the inner tent doors have full no-see-um
mesh panels covered with equal sized, zipper-adjustable fabric
panels. The lower part of the main roof can be rolled up for
increased air flow, and, in mild weather, the vestibules
can be removed for maximum venting and viewing opportunities. |
